How Synhop works
Synhop is a daily synonym chain. Start from today's opening word and hop, synonym by synonym, until you reach the goal. Fewer hops is better - and you do not always need all seven.
The daily puzzle
Each day presents one puzzle: a start word you can see, and a goal word you are trying to reach. Type a synonym of your current word to move one hop. That new word becomes your current word, and you continue until you land on the goal or run out of hops.
A synonym here means a close meaning link - not merely the same broad topic. HAPPY to JOYFUL is a strong hop. HAPPY to BIRTHDAY usually is not, even if the words feel thematically related.
Warmth colours
After each hop, Synhop shows whether your new word is closer to the goal, sideways, or colder. Use the colours as a compass, but trust your own sense of meaning when the path feels right.
- Greener / warmer tones mean you moved closer to the goal
- Neutral tones mean a sideways step that may still unlock a better route
- Cooler tones mean you drifted away - try a different synonym angle
Difficulty and hints
Before your first move of a streak, you can choose a difficulty. Higher difficulties reveal less about the goal and may hide synonym suggestions. Once a streak is active, difficulty stays locked until the streak resets, so the challenge stays consistent day to day.
Streaks and the year-long journey
Play each day to keep your streak alive. Miss a day and the streak returns to zero. Across the year, each day's goal becomes the next day's start, so regular players travel a continuous chain of words - one hop at a time.
Scoring and leaderboards
Winning with fewer hops ranks higher for the day. Leaderboards show today's fastest finishes, yesterday's best, and longer-term streak / overall standings. Sign in and pick a leaderboard name if you want your path credited to you instead of Anonymous.
Practice, archive, and Synhop Plus
Free accounts get a small daily practice allowance. Synhop Plus unlocks unlimited practice, the archive of past daily puzzles, and removes in-game ads. The daily puzzle itself stays free for everyone.
Example path
Suppose the start is COLD and the goal is UNFRIENDLY. One short path might be COLD → CHILLY → FROSTY → UNFRIENDLY. Another player might take a longer route through emotion words. Both are valid if each hop is a true synonym link; the shorter finish ranks higher.
